Elvis Presley's childhood home in Tupelo, Mississippi is set to hit the auction block in August. The starting auction price of the house, which was left abandoned and was previously expected to be torn down, will be set between $30,000 to $50,000.
The three-bedroom, 1,260-square-foot home first went up for auction in 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was unable to score any buyers. "The house itself has been dismantled and taken apart meticulously, so it can be put back together. It is being stored in a trailer. So, when someone buys the house, they're going to get the whole trailer and the designs for putting back together," Jeff Marren, owner of Rockhurst Auctions, told The New York Post.

"Whoever buys it can actually hire the person who took it apart to put it back together for them. They can then move it where ever they'd like to," he added. The company is holding the auction on August 14 in Memphis during the city's Elvis Week 2022 celebration, reports the portal. The house is stored in Mississippi, and only the original parts of the home that existed when the Presleys lived there were kept, reveals Marren.

Its elements have been stored in a 30-foot American Hauler Night Hawk Trailer, which will also be included with the purchase of the house. "The house was originally going to be leveled. The property was going to be sold off for commercial purposes, and so a couple of collectors got together and bought the structure and sought to it that it was preserved," revealed Marren.

"I don't know anyone else that was going to preserve the house, and the land was going to be used for some other purpose, for a parking lot, for storage or something," he adds. Marren thinks its sale is "an unprecedented opportunity." He explains, "It is a little bit of a strange item because only certain people can utilize it. They need a big piece of property. They would have to invest in moving it. Most of the things I sell are single, individual items you can hold in your hand."
"Even though he left Tupelo as a young teen, Elvis never forgot his hometown or its people. He returned to Tupelo in 1956 to perform a benefit for the city, and again a year later to raise money to build a Youth Center and park for Tupelo kids, just like he had been. The city used the proceeds from the show to buy the Presley house and surrounding property for the park," reports Atlas Obscura.

The auction is called the 'Auction on Elvis Presley Boulevard' and will include hundreds of "finer Elvis artifacts," including clothing, jewelry, autographs, and concert memorabilia. In other news, Baz Luhrman's biopic on the singer titled 'Elvis' hit the theaters on Friday, June 26, and has grossed a worldwide total of $55.5 million, as of June 27. It stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
