Officers responded to a home in the 600 block of West Court Street late Wednesday night for a reported burglary in progress, and the Ithaca Police Department says officers arrived to find “that the victim had detained the suspect in the driveway of their home.”

According to a statement Friday morning from IPD, officers responding at 12:05am Thursday were able to take the suspect into custody. “The victim reported that he’d found his bathroom door locked, and when he went to open it, he was confronted by the suspect,” says IPD Sergeant Michael Meskill. “Neither the victim nor suspect were injured during the brief physical encounter.”

Meskill says 37-year-old Timothy L. Shay was arrested for burglary in the second degree, a class C felony, arraigned before Ithaca City Court Judge Wallace, and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 credit bail.
